Celtic Sunshine

“Celtic Sunshine was a Broodmare for Gunston Hall Farm for many years - producing multiple foals including stakes runners. She was later sold at the Keenland November sale where the person who bought her - after she failed to produce a viable foal - decided to ship her away to a horse auction that was notorious for slaughter buyers. Gunston Hall received word that the mare was there - starved and melancholy - and rescued her from the kill pen. She went back to Gunston Hall to live out her days with the other retired Broodmares.

When the Broodmare division was announced for the Retired Racehorse Project’s 2023 Thoroughbred Makeover, Colleen Fox - who works at Gunston Hall Farm - contacted her longtime friend, Danica Lawler, to sign up and partner in getting Celtic Sunshine to the Makeover. Both women are very excited to participate in the inaugural RRP Broodmare division with the oldest horse to ever compete at the Thoroughbred Makeover at the age of 20”.
